Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) adalah aktor yang terkenal karena perannya sebagai superhero Birdman dalam film trilogi tahun 1990.
Seiring waktu dan setelah film Birdman selesai, popularitas Riggan Thomson juga menurun. Riggan, di sisi lain, merasa sangat sulit untuk melepaskan citranya sebagai Manusia Burung.
Disini Riggan mulai mengalami konflik batin. Dia sering mendengar suara Birdman di dalam dirinya, bahkan sering membayangkan dia terbang atau melakukan telekinesis. Riggan kemudian mencoba bangkit untuk mendapatkan kembali pinjamannya. Dia juga memutuskan untuk melakukan pertunjukan Broadway mengadaptasi cerita pendek oleh seorang penulis terkenal.
Riggan adalah seorang penulis, sutradara dan aktor di Broadway, tempat dia bekerja. Namun di tengah upaya tersebut, suara Riggan’s Birdman terus mendorong sang aktor untuk kembali ke blockbuster.
